Especially when your child has dry & irritated skin and some hacks to make it easier.

Skin disease amongst children are on the rise in developed countries. Rashes, relentless itching and chaffing of skin are initial symptoms which can ultimately develop into staphylococcal and fungal infections.

One major trigger of this is hot weather. Heat causes water loss which dries out the skin, leading to the breakdown of the skin’s natural barrier and allowing irritants and toxins in the environment to get into the skin.

So, what are some preventive measures you can do for your little ones to be happier and truly enjoy their childhood?

Clothing

  • Loose fit and cotton-mesh based clothes…likely to trap less heat.
  • What you put on your child will let you take off one layer as the weather heats up. (Helps when you’re in the car 😉).
  • Heat during the evening is also another trigger. Avoid thick clothing and blankets which, also traps heat.

Baths

  • Bath your child regularly. It removes irritants and is one of the most effective ways to put moisture back into the skin.
  • Take a bath or shower at least once a day with a gentle cleaner and avoid using a washcloth or loofah.
  • Moisturizing immediately after taking your child out of the bath and while the skin is still damp. This helps to lock in the hydration and protect the skin.

Cold Compresses

  • Cold compress lowers your baby’s skin temperature and helps to manage itches.
  • Be sure to rest it on the skin for a few minutes to take the heat out and repeat until the skin has cooled down.
  • Apply a moisturizing cream with itch relieving properties on areas where the irritation flares up most.
